It is a direct translation from the Chinese term Qi Yue 七月, which is the Chinese 7th Lunar Month. 7th Month Festival is known by various names. Traditionally, Taoists call it Zhong Yuan Jie 中元节 but to the layman it is just 7th Month Festival. It is also known as the Ghost Festival or Hungry Ghost Festival through various interpretations. 7th Lunar Month is when Singaporean Chinese observe its traditions and beliefs.
